St Georges Tower

Magnet Properties, Leicester

The 22 storey St. Georges Tower has dominated the skyline of Leicester City Centre since the 1960s and has previously been used by the Post Office and British Telecom.  Its refurbishment acting as the catalyst of the St. George’s area regeneration.  The building needed new life and a dynamic approach was taken to its refurbishment and extension.  Amongst many facilities the redevelopment contains 60 apartments, a leisure centre, 250,000sq.ft. of office accommodation and a hotel. In addition there are also 2 levels of basement car parking.

The first phase of the scheme was delivered after a negotiated tender process with the successful contractor following a prequalification exercise.  Following this we acted as contract administrator under a traditional JCT Contract reporting to the client and project manager.  The construction approach consisted of three new storeys of lightweight residential accommodation on the roof of the existing concrete framed podium reinforced by a scheme for carbon-strengthening to all existing structural members.
