The GBS IoT is a powerhouse for advanced manufacturing and engineering brings together a partnership of the leading further education colleges, universities and employers for the region to deliver training and support facilities focused on programming of specialist industrial equipment. Located in central Birmingham, close to the campus of Aston University the centre is a resource for the wider Midlands region.

The single storey building set over 440 Sq.m is designed to the showcase the internal activities, and specifically the technology available to users, within the Cyber Factory. Supporting meeting and teaching spaces are interconnected to the Cyber Factory allowing didactic and practical teaching to be integrated. The teaching spaces have the potential to be opened into one another creating a larger space for exhibitions, seminars and events. Further office and ancillary accommodation is also provided. Externally the design intent is to create a clean, contemporary appearance reflecting the building’s high tech contents, with a feature angular PPC panelled and tapering canopy. The rear elevations are simpler in form and defensive in design due to the buildings location on the edge of the campus, fronting a public highway.
