Robothams Architects were appointed to develop the design for a new community building for Walsall Council which would act as a hub for business support in Bloxwich and to support local residents to access digital assets. The commission came through the practice’s long term relationship with Atkins Realis, and we worked closely with WSP and the Council to develop the design.
The project refurbished a former modernist post office into accommodation across two floors with front and rear extensions to provide further meeting spaces and accessibility to the first floor. A variety of constructional methods were combined to work with the existing building fabric whilst thermal upgrades and the installed PV solar panels upgraded the building environmentally.
The project was constructed in 2024-2025 by Speller Metcalfe following a single stage traditional procurement exercise which utilised the CWM framework to short list the contractors.
The building was completed in summer 2025 and opened officially in October.
