In competition Robothams were appointed to design a new SEN school in Brockworth for Gloucestershire County Council in 2020. It would provide 75 pupil places for children 11-16 with social, emotional and mental health needs, meeting a shortfall of specialist accommodation across the county.

Working with the whole design team, the County Council and the Academy sponsor @Learn MAT we developed the brief for the school with a focus on learning hubs and vocational learning facilities. The functional requirements have developed into the current design submitted in October 2020 for planning consent and approved in March 2021.

Key issues for the design were the close relationship between inside and outside spaces, the availability of facilities for the community and the internal organisation of the school to create the individual learning hubs.

The project was completed for the beginning of the 2022-2023 academic year.
