Robothams Architects won an architectural competition to design a new commercial development on the Sywell Aerodrome site in Northamptonshire. Working closely with the site’s management team the practice developed a design which references the history of the airfield and its original Art Deco pilot’s club and hotel. Established in 1928, Sywell Aerodrome has evolved from a World War 2 RAF facility into a centre for aeronautical and engineering excellence with a wide range of businesses clustered on the site.
The practice managed the planning application process liaising with Wellingborough Borough Council and the various consultees. Consent was granted in 2020 with a start on site in 2021, and completion anticipated for late 2022.
When completed the technology park will provide a total of over 50,000 sq.ft in two buildings subdivided into 11 units with both workshop and office spaces. The external spaces provide parking, cycle storage, EV charging areas and a service yard with an emphasis on creating a high quality impression for visitors and tenants.
