Having prepared alternative schemes for the site previously, we were approached by Earlplace to produce a scheme for a 50 bed intensive care residential home. In partnership with the proposed operator Methodist Homes we developed a detailed design with construction beginning in 2008 via a design and build procurement route.
The design had to adhere to the existing footprint of the previously occupied hotel, with a section of the façade being retained. The scheme developed into a 3 storey traditionally constructed building with ancillary accommodation in the basement. The external façade is rendered with a plain clay tile roof to match the retained element of existing building. The landscape design includes visitor and staff parking and a private courtyard garden for residents. The completed scheme represents best practice in the care of the elderly especially those suffering with dementia. The completed scheme won a Leamington Society award.
