Over two summers the University wished to refurbish both a large proportion of teaching accommodation and the Kenrick library at their Perry Barr campus; both to lift the sense of quality and professionalism within the buildings and rectify issues of environmental comfort within areas of high IT use. Following wide consultation with staff and students a design brief was prepared that framed the projects objectives in each area. An initial design was then prepared and developed into a scheme for major internal alterations and a contemporary interiors scheme.
The schemes were procured under a two stage tendering process which allowed the contractors to contribute to the detailed design and specification. The professional team being retained by the University in a traditional relationship giving the client control of both the design and construction process on site.
