St Philip’s Church

Parochial Church Council, Dorridge

In 2012 Robothams were part of a Kier Regional team who won the commission to design a new place of worship for the congregation of St Philip’s Church, Dorridge.  For a number of years the church had been looking to replace their existing facilities with a modern building which would provide spaces for both worship and community use.

The practice have been working with the ‘Building for the Future’ team within the church to find proposals that meet the congregation’s aspirations whilst satisfying local concerns about the loss of the existing church buildings.

The new facility includes a worship space to seat up to 380 people, café, community hall and meeting rooms across two floors with a focus on accessibility and sustainability. The current design has been tailored  to retain a large number of the existing mature trees on site and uses a traditional palette of materials and forms combined with more modern elements.

The project was completed in 2021 and opened by the Bishop of Birmingham.
