The second phase of City College Coventry’s campus has begun on site and the steel frame is already setting the scene for this important building on the city’s skyline.

Due for completion 2008 the building will complete one of the largest further education projects in the country. Robothams Associate, Steve Jackson says ‘this project is a catalyst for regeneration and will make a big difference to Swanswell’.

The project, a large campus style Secondary School & Community Centre, will cater for 1500 pupils by combining 3 existing sites from within the local area.

The sustainable focus incorporated in the project will undergo a BREEAM environmental assessment, where fully holistic approaches to ecological issues are recognised. The Practice’s growing educational and environmental experience will help to realise this exciting new scheme.

The first phase of the City College development is currently under construction and the contractors Moss Construction have finshed erecting the main steel frame superstructure.

The project features in the May ‘New Homes’ section was one of two canal side developments ‘that will add a dash of urban chic’ in Worcester.

The first phase of the masterplan is currently on site where 36 of 48 one and two bedroom luxury apartments are already sold. The next phase will see the construction of more affordable apartments and houses. A commendation was received from the Cheltenham Civic Society in the Improvement to the Built or Landscaped Environment category for Benton and Ireton, Pavilion Gardens and Harefield Court.

The scheme, developed by Laing Homes Ltd, involved the renovation and conversion of existing villas together with new residential development and featured many period details with classical proportions.

The detailed proposals of phase 2, at Diglis Basin, Worcester was approved by planning sub-committee last month.

Since the master plan was approved in 2004, the practice has been developing detailed proposals for the 5 phases of this major regeneration project. Our client Taylor Woodrow has started to construct the first phase and we are preparing a design for phases 3 and 4, which will include luxury apartments, a gymnasium, a community centre and a cafe. Phase 2 provides thirty affordable houses and apartments, for which we are now preparing working drawings for construction during 2006.
